Lost Art Registry Indonesia | South Jakarta - Kemang | 30 December 2012 | 4 paintings by Abdullah Sr., Nyoman Tusan & Widodo Sunarko

On December 30th, 2012, around 01:00 am, a painting by Abdullah Sr., a painting by Nyoman Tusan and two paintings by Widodo Sunarko  have disappeared from a house in Kemang, South Jakarta.

The Abdullah Suriosubroto painting, measuring 60 x 95 cm,  is shown above.

The police report submitted on December 30th, 2012, at 6pm, appears here:

A similar/almost identical painting has appeared in an auction in Singapore in mid 2013, but the painting in the auction is attributed to Basoeki Abdullah, the son of Abdullah Suriosubroto. We urge the buyer of the painting to check if in fact the painting is this painting by Abdullah. It can be done by checking the signature, which should appear as "ABDULLAH". Basoeki Abdullah's paintings are commonly signed "BASOEKI", although some early paintings are signed "B. ABDULLAH". Of course there is also a possibility that the signature has been tampered with, and added  "B. " in front of the original signature. Inspection under ultra-violet light would be able to determine if the signature is original and has been done completely at the same period of time, or if there have been any recent additions/intrusions upon the original signature.

Any parties currently in possession of the painting that was stolen from this house in Kemang, should contact me via email: senirupa@gmail.com. Thank you.

Found: Central Jakarta, 28 October 2012

Lost Art Registry Indonesia:
Found: Central Jakarta, 28 October 2012

Today, the seven paintings that were stolen from the house in South Jakarta was retrieved by their owner from a dealer in Central Jakarta. The dealer called me yesterday evening, saying that he had purchased the paintings on 18 October 2012 from a "door-to-door" vendor. However later he found out that the paintings that he had purchased were the stolen and was reported on the LARI weblog, and therefore he intended to return them to their rightful owner. Today, I assisted the owner, and retrieved the paintings, which consisted of two paintings (one of a Beringin Tree and the other of boats by the beach) by Affandi, two paintings (one of Kresna wayang and the other of a Ngaben Procession) by Bagong Kussudiarja, a painting of Baris Dancers by Sudiarta, a painting of fish by Wadji.. (indistinctly signed), and an anonymous abstract painting.
We thank everyone who contributed to this effort.
